  1. Start By Measuring Your Rafter Spacing
    • Begin by measuring the distance between rafters at three different points. If the measurements vary, use the smallest value. Repeat this step for every bay.

  2. Measure The Distance Between Beams or Walls
    • For freestanding structures, measure the distance between beams. For attached structures, measure the distance between the wall and the corresponding beam or wall.

  3. Ensure You Have Enough Space For Canopy Clearance
    • Ensure there is at least 14 inches of vertical clearance along the rafter projection (dimension B). Reference your measuring guide as needed.

*If there is less than 14 inches clearance, consult with the Shade Specialist for custom handle lengths.

For this step, we recommend referencing your measurement guide.

  4. Determine Your Required Track Length
    • Determine the required track length by subtracting 2 inches from measurement B. Reference your measuring guide as needed. For this step, we recommend referencing your measurement guide.
  1. Start By Preparing The Fit Tracks For Installation
    • If adding to an existing structure, the track comes cut to length and pre-drilled for installation.

If the track needs to be shortened, begin by using a miter saw with a fine-tooth blade. After cutting, remove any burrs.

If additional pilot holes are required, use a 3/16 inch drill bit followed by a 3/8 inch 82-degree countersink bit.

  2. Install The Fit Tracks Between The Rafters
    • Position the track at least 1 and 1/4 inch below the top of the mounting surface to allow clearance for the WindLocks.

For freestanding structures, maintain a consistent offset between the end of the rafters and the track.

For wall-to-wall installations, ensure there is a minimum 2 inch gap on one side of the track to allow for canopy installation.

Secure the track to the mounting surface using the provided screws, ensure it is level and that all screw heads are fully recessed to avoid obstructing the canopy rollers.

  3. Splice The Fit Tracks For Multiple Sections If Needed
    • If multiple sections of track are needed to reach the required length, begin by securing the first section to the mounting surface.

Insert splice pins into the top and bottom channels on the back of the installed track.

Then, slide the second section onto the splice pins, aligning it with the first section. Once aligned, secure the second track to the mounting surface.

  4. Install The Canopy To The Tracks
    • Determine the correct orientation of the canopy by identifying the front slide lock and the roller lock pin.

For attached configurations, the roller lock pin will be located on the wall side.

For freestanding configurations, the roller lock pin will be located on the side where the fabric will collect when retracted.

Ensure the PVC side of the crossmember faces upward and the aluminum side faces downward

  5. Install The Front Slide Lock Crossmember
    • Begin installation at the rear of the structure with the crossmember containing the front slide lock. Insert the first crossmember into both tracks simultaneously with the locking tab facing upward.

  6. Install The Mid Crossmembers
    • Next, install mid crossmembers into both tracks at the same time.

  7. Install The Roller Lock Pin Crossmember
    • Install the last crossmember into the tracks. The roller lock pin should face towards the front of the canopy.

Position this final crossmember at the desired stopping point for the canopy. Once positioned, tighten the roller lock pin set screw.

  8. Finish Up By Installing The WindLocks
    • At the end of the track where the canopy is fully extended, install the correct WindLock based on the canopy’s orientation. Position the WindLock so the stop plate faces the outside of the structure and is flush with the end of the track. Secure using the provided mounting screws.

To locate the WindLock for the retracted canopy position, multiply the number of canopy crossmembers by 1 and 1/4 inch. This distance is the length from the end of the Fit Track to the near edge of the WindLock. Be sure to reference your install guide when needed.

Tighten or loosen the adjusting screw on the WindLock to set the desired spring tension. Avoid over tightening the adjusting screw.

ShadeFlex Fit Warranty:
Canopy fabric will be free of defects in material and workmanship under normal and proper use for a period of five (5) years, canopy tracks for ten (10) years and canopy hardware for three (3) years.
