The ShadeFlex® Fit Canopy is easy to measure for and install to both new and existing structures. With it’s simple between the rafter track system and easy to follow guides, you’ll spend more time enjoying your canopy, and less time fiddling with installation. For more detailed instructions, we recommend downloading the ShadeFlex® Fit Measuring and Install guides.
Begin by measuring the distance between rafters at three different points. If the measurements vary, use the smallest value. Repeat this step for every bay.
For freestanding structures, measure the distance between beams.
For attached structures, measure the distance between the wall and the corresponding beam or wall.
Ensure there is at least 14 inches of vertical clearance along the rafter projection (dimension B). Reference your measuring guide as needed.
*If there is less than 14 inches clearance, consult with the Shade Specialist for custom handle lengths.
For this step, we recommend referencing your measurement guide.
Determine the required track length by subtracting 2 inches from measurement B. Reference your measuring guide as needed.

If adding to an existing structure, the track comes cut to length and pre-drilled for installation.
If the track needs to be shortened, begin by using a miter saw with a fine-tooth blade. After cutting, remove any burrs.
If additional pilot holes are required, use a 3/16 inch drill bit followed by a 3/8 inch 82-degree countersink bit.
Position the track at least 1 and 1/4 inch below the top of the mounting surface to allow clearance for the WindLocks.
For freestanding structures, maintain a consistent offset between the end of the rafters and the track.
For wall-to-wall installations, ensure there is a minimum 2 inch gap on one side of the track to allow for canopy installation.
Secure the track to the mounting surface using the provided screws, ensure it is level and that all screw heads are fully recessed to avoid obstructing the canopy rollers.
